Greetings virgin bouncers!

The origins behind the daily bounce..... I started to send a select few friends a song a day (missing a few days out due to being a human with a lazy gene). This evolved in a darwinistic style and became the daily bounce. These friends now chip in from time to time and raise songs to trump my previous bounce...I had to take it one step further and reclaim the bounce as my own...So I sailed the seedy seas of the internet and developed this blog.

This is where I can showcase old and new songs that I love, and typically 'bounce' to....enjoy...

KLAUS

This Brighton based singer songwriter is soon to be releasing the single ‘I Saw The Light’ through indie label Got Got Need Records. With soft vocals and a clear folk influence this guy is a great listen on a crisp winter morning…so well done Got Got, good timing on your release!

With hints of the ever talented Maccabees and newer bands such as Tristram (listen Here), Klaus sets himself a big mountain to climb. But with his tight vocals and pristine harmonies I’m sure he’ll do just fine.

Napoleon In Rags

Todays bounce brings you Napoleon In Rags a band that in recent months has supported the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club and Babyshamble.
With sharp vocals and a jumpy little bass line this new age indie band quite clearly know how to put a catchy tune together. ‘Don’t Let It Out’ can be heard on their myspace here >>>LISTEN TO TUNE HERE<<<
A track with no doubt a stadium sound and a rhythm that makes you wana whack on your wellies, pull out the cider and dance in some muddy field somewhere in Somerset.
These are a one to watch.

Jamie does Dallas, or at least it sounds like he comes from there with the track ‘Suzy Sang’….and no this is by no means an insult! This for me gives a big virtual thumbs up! *Jamie here is my thumbs up*. With recent releases by artist such as Dylan LeBlanc there is definitely room for Jamie Ley to flourish. I love that even though we are English/Londoners we can still create songs with as much soul, blues and emotion as someone that eats squirrels for tea and chews tobacco.
I hope that the folk scene that has shaped and set itself resident in London for the past few years starts to move in the same direction as Jamie and his band…no more Mumfords please (they are the only ones that’s can)!!

And by all means, Enjoy!

White Russia

This south London alternative electronic wonder came into my world only this week and I am so glad they did. I’ve listened to the few tracks that their myspace has to offer continuously for the last two days. Especially the track ‘Charmless State’…with vocals that echo Bjork and more recent acts like Lykke Li and beats that are reminiscent of Massive Attack and early Faithless its clear to me that this band has a the ability to nest themselves comfortably in a niche that needs filling.
If this band doesn’t go on to conquer festivals next summer and have their songs remixed and played in warehouse raves up and down the country then I’ll eat my hat.

Today’s bounce comes in the form of YUCK….currently touring England and well worth catching. With heavy influence from 90’s guitar band culture, could YUCK bring with them yet another mass following?....I ruddy hope so!
I could sit here and rabble on about all the comparisons to be made, but actually I will just let you do that for yourself, because 1. its Friday and I am feeling uber lazy and 2. I trust if you are reading this then you already have a high music IQ.

After being recommended to listen to this guy back in spring it makes me very happy to know that he is being recognised for the talent that he is. I had the pleasure of seeing David’s Lyre at his single launch in Islington recently. His voice is even more beautiful in the real life world and his band are pretty fucking tight! I defiantly 100% recommend buying his single which is available on download or 7” right now.

He does some great little covers on his Youtube page too, so whilst you in the world of David’s Lyre go check them out…

Listen here to his Myspace

I also, on THE very same evening was graced with a band known as Belgrade. This kooky little 4 piece are also worth checking out. I particularly enjoyed their track ‘Battle’ which you can listen to right here, wow! >>>> Listen here

Janelle Monae

Well after listening to this album for a couple of months now I was already totally sold...having heard her live...well that's a different ball game (and in the good sense) the girl rocked my socks off!

Its been a while since I've been to a gig where I am overwhelmed by how good someone can get it.

Her style....bang on
Her band....cool as fuck
Her hair....do I need to even comment
Her voice.....gave me shivers.

Not only did she bang out her album as if she'd been doing it for years she also covered my number 1 of all time 'Smile' originally performed by Nat King Cole...now this song admittedly has a very special place in my heart and so I love it for that alone. But, Janelle managed to pull it out of the bag so much that I turned to a friend and made a big claim....'She sung it better than the man himself'. And you know what, I don't regret saying it. She blew me away. Never have I heard someone hit top C in the same voice she uses for bottom C!

So my conclusion, she's a freak of nature, yet again, America have exported the creme de la creme of all artists, and in a way I'm gutted. Why aren't we doing this, Simon cowell, why haven't you produced such talent on xfactor? (Note the sarcasm)

Anyway that's enough of me banging on about Miss Janelle.

Listen here and see for yourself

And you must must must, see her live!

Klezma Villanova....

Today I have been mostly listening to Klezma Villanova, a band that's been a concious thought in my brain for a few years now. I can probably be more precise, since about 2008...though a few of the boys were knocking around my parts showing off their musical talents way before. 'My parts?' you ask...well this be Twickenham.

God bless our quirky little west London ways....although I think this lot top it for 'quirky', with their Klezmer/punk bluegrass style music sprinkled with a dash of Russian/Jewish influences.

Here is their MYSPACE...they have a gig this sunday...it would be rude not to attend.

Reppin' the Eel Pie Island tings!

Peace 'o' Love
