Greetings virgin bouncers!

The origins behind the daily bounce..... I started to send a select few friends a song a day (missing a few days out due to being a human with a lazy gene). This evolved in a darwinistic style and became the daily bounce. These friends now chip in from time to time and raise songs to trump my previous bounce...I had to take it one step further and reclaim the bounce as my own...So I sailed the seedy seas of the internet and developed this blog.

This is where I can showcase old and new songs that I love, and typically 'bounce' to....enjoy...

Das Racist LIVE in Amsterdam

Tried to see these guys on Monday, but customs stopped them from entering the country...probably wise?! But, it did well upset me because quite frankly I think they are a movement. Haven't heard flows like this since the 90's....Britain does in fact love you Das Racist, it just may not be ready for you yet. (next time sort your Visa's out yeah!)

Daily Bounces top 40 Spotify's of 2010

OK,

In the theme of most music journo's inflicting on the world what they believe to be the cool list of 2010 I have decided to do my own. But, as Spotify isn't quite up to date with things like Kanyes new album I have had to make a list that is as near to my top 40 as humanly possible. So alas some artists have made it on by the skin of their creative smoke stained teeth. It also goes without saying that I am not committed enough to put this list into any particular order.

SUCKERS

Ok, so I’ve booked myself a Christmas vacation to New York and I am amazingly excited, firstly because I am a sucker for Christmas and no where does it like NY and secondly it’s all about the Brooklyn Music scene for me in recent months. I’ve blogged before about quirky little bands that I love from this state and today I am going to feed you more. This is a pretty self indulgent post so I do apologise. But in my self indulgence you may just be able to pick off little scraps of musical flesh that go uneaten.

So today I give you Suckers …this Brooklyn four piece pop underground sound amazingness only just appeared in my life and I am forever grateful that they did. They bring big choral moments with massive harmonies which anyone that knows me knows I am a massive slosher for! Big drums, massive melodies and even horns!

I’ve died, gone to heaven and ended up in Brooklyn…Listen to them here

I cannot wait to get my teeth into this scene come December…arguably the best music making district in the world for me right now.

Love, hope and peace

Alice Gold....

Was having the debate with a friend of mine about the female trend that has swept its way through the music industry these last few years, discussing in particular the rise and fall of a fair few. We were reeling off all the ‘solo’ female acts that have created soundwaves and then the conversation changed to something less interesting and we both got on with our days.

But…..

I was left thinking about one girl in particular who is low on the radar currently but I have no doubt will shed light when all the not so good females out there piss off! I give you Alice Gold and her single Orbiter >>Listen Here<<. A sound with conviction, honesty and quite frankly not crap (yes I am thinking of Daisy *cough* dares you) and apparently the single can be brought! Yay.

Britpop revival....is it really happening?

Earlier this year I discovered YUCK...who even though not British are heavily influenced by the Britpop sound...and so it seems that there is a guitar based Britpop fizzle happening to the west of London, with bands springing up left right and centre, but... two come to mind. So, naturally I am going to ram these two down your throats…don’t choke now.

Them:Youth

A band that I have been fortunate enough to see a few times…strong melodies, front man and an even stronger fan bass. I think the last time I saw them it all got a bit frantic and someone broke their arm in the audience, not that this should put you off.

With massive tunes like Fever Rising and Toothache its no wonder they have remixers queuing up left right and centre to get a piece of the action! They have remixes coming out every orifice on their myspace >>LISTEN HERE<<

I am wise with my ‘ones to watch’….and therefore I place all bets on the nose that these boys will be around to make a few footprints in the industry.

Keep up the tune making, beat bashing, remix mixing , leather wearing massiveness boys!

Now on to…

Brother

Ok so here we have it...Brother. These Slough based boys will soon knock ‘The Office’ off of the spot of Sloughs claim to fame and replace it with heavy masculine riffs and to the point lyrics.

You may have heard their track ‘Darling Buds of May’ played out on our UK radio waves?...with guitar licks that echo Jackus Whiteus and melodic rhythms that could easily be repeated on the terraces, what an absolute banger…

Maybe I am wishing this upon us, but I do feel a massive sense of relief that 80's inspired synths may soon again be a thing of the past and we can move on to what we do best...guitars, anthems and beer.

Star Slinger

Star Slinger a neeky little music boff from up north, I say this with respect and admiration. The dude built a computer solely for music production at the mere age of 14, what an utter don! With the likes of Paul Van Dyke backing him at an early stage in his ever flourishing career this bounce is purely self indulgent for me today. I got on the Star Slingers band wagon only recently and I have to confess its not left my ear drums since (sorry to all those other talented musicians out there!). He is also kind enough to share his music for free here >>>RIGHT HERE<<< get it on your ipods, you’d be fools not to. With very strong hints of passion pit and early chemical brothers it’s a win win situation.

Born Blonde

Saw this lot a few weeks back at the trusty Blue Flowers supporting Wolf Gang amongst others. (A post by Blue Flowers has just reminded me how much I actually enjoyed them, and why they take priority today over other bounces). Its so easy to put these things to one side, mainly because I am lazy, partly because I am busy.

They formed a little V formation on stage, like a flock of migrating musical birds. No denying that the lead singer is easy on the eye, this band have got that Mumford/Sons of Noel and Adrian/Mariners children feel with a 90’s Ashcroft vibe…mainly driven by the lead singers raspy vocals. Funny little combo, but works nicely to stop people from groaning and saying something like 'oh god, not another anti folk collective with wooden instruments and big harmonies'. (I have no friends that say this by the way, I'd probably punch them in the side of the head).

>>>HERE<<< is a video of in my opinion there stand out track of a 4 song long set list. Its called ‘Signs of Fear’.

I will be headed to see these boys again *coughs* to eye up the lead singer…I mean, engross myself in their music…in fact I truly mean that, I really do like what they’re doing.

Rizzle Kicks

This duo is a force to be messed with. Using established well put together tightly produced tunes and splicing them so that they can infiltrate with their poetry...this duo is set to explode. Using established artists for blank canvases such as lily Allen, The White Stripes and The Strokes, they use a totally different medium to the original artist to create a modern day surrealist movement. With lyrics so cuttingly truthful and adlibs equally as beautiful. I have well and truly fallen in love with this urban/pop/indie ‘Jedward’ (hate Jedward..literally hate Jedward).

Superhumanoids

This LA electronic force have just announced UK tour dates mostly supporting Local Natives. Superhumanoids are definitely soon to hit the big time doing remixes left right and centre. With repetitive electronic beats and a laid back approach, their stuff is best heard chilling out on a big leather sofa with a martini in hand (or just a beer, a beer would do...). Their ambient remix of the Local Natives track 'Shapeshifter' parades their talents effortlessly, and yes you can hear it right here>>>>> ‘Listen Here’ .

This for me gives a big virtual thumbs up! *Jamie here is my thumbs up*. With recent releases by artist such as Dylan LeBlanc there is definitely room for Jamie Ley to flourish. I love that even though we are English/Londoners we can still create songs with as much soul, blues and emotion as someone that eats squirrels for tea and chews tobacco.
I hope that the folk scene that has shaped and set itself resident in London for the past few years starts to move in the same direction as Jamie and his band…no more Mumfords please (they are the only ones that’s can)!!

White Russia

This south London alternative electronic wonder came into my world only this week and I am so glad they did. I’ve listened to the few tracks that their myspace has to offer continuously for the last two days. Especially the track ‘Charmless State’…with vocals that echo Bjork and more recent acts like Lykke Li and beats that are reminiscent of Massive Attack and early Faithless its clear to me that this band has a the ability to nest themselves comfortably in a niche that needs filling.
If this band doesn’t go on to conquer festivals next summer and have their songs remixed and played in warehouse raves up and down the country then I’ll eat my hat.

Janelle Monae

Well after listening to this album for a couple of months now I was already totally sold...having heard her live...well that's a different ball game (and in the good sense) the girl rocked my socks off!

Its been a while since I've been to a gig where I am overwhelmed by how good someone can get it.

Her style....bang on
Her band....cool as fuck
Her hair....do I need to even comment
Her voice.....gave me shivers.

Not only did she bang out her album as if she'd been doing it for years she also covered my number 1 of all time 'Smile' originally performed by Nat King Cole...now this song admittedly has a very special place in my heart and so I love it for that alone. But, Janelle managed to pull it out of the bag so much that I turned to a friend and made a big claim....'She sung it better than the man himself'. And you know what, I don't regret saying it. She blew me away. Never have I heard someone hit top C in the same voice she uses for bottom C!

So my conclusion, she's a freak of nature, yet again, America have exported the creme de la creme of all artists, and in a way I'm gutted. Why aren't we doing this, Simon cowell, why haven't you produced such talent on xfactor? (Note the sarcasm)

Anyway that's enough of me banging on about Miss Janelle.

Listen here and see for yourself

And you must must must, see her live!

I can probably be more precise, since about 2008...though a few of the boys were knocking around my parts showing off their musical talents way before. 'My parts?' you ask...well this be Twickenham.

God bless our quirky little west London ways....although I think this lot top it for 'quirky', with their Klezmer/punk bluegrass style music sprinkled with a dash of Russian/Jewish influences.
